In the last blog I gave some signs of the times that signal when Jesus will return and the Antichrist will be revealed. They were: 1. Great worldwide delusion; 2. Moral decay of cultures worldwide; 3. Loss of privacy and government keeping closer tabs on all that happens and 4. The rise of the possibility of one world government. We’ll conclude the list of signs in this blog. Then you can decide if you think the Antichrist is already here or not?
- ECONOMIC INSTABILITY. There will be great economic distress in the end times. This chaos will help open the way for a strong charismatic leader promising solutions to lead humanity astray (Revelation 18:11-19). This final kingdom is even referred to as ‘Babylon’ in Revelation 17 and 18 because of the similarity to ancient Babylon. Concerns about economic instability, inequality, and financial crises are prevalent today. Persistent poverty, unemployment, and income disparities can create social unrest, making people vulnerable to promises of economic prosperity and security. An example of this was Hitler, whose extremism took advantage of Germany’s economic hardships after World War I.
Globalization and interconnected financial systems have increased the susceptibility of economies to systemic risks and shocks. Speculative bubbles, debt crises, and market volatility in one area undermine confidence in the financial institutions of other nations, creating opportunities for extremist ideologies. In addition, the unknown long-term effects of automation and artificial intelligence raise concerns about the future of jobs and economies. As Christians we must not be caught up in the greed and materials so common around us, and we must continue to give generously to those in need.
- ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS. Jesus warns of environmental crises contributing to the worldwide catastrophes paving the way for the rise of the Antichrist. Concerns about climate change, pollution, deforestation, and biodiversity loss are prevalent worldwide. Jesus said this would happen in the last days (Matthew 24:7). This political and economic uncertainty will be exploited by the Antichrist to gain worldwide control.
- RISE OF FALSE PROPHETS. While “antichrists” have existed from the beginning, they are in great number now. These false prophets and false Christs will perform false signs and wonders to mislead and deceive people (Matthew 24:24). A false prophet claims to hear from God and give a message from him. A false Christ does much the same but also claims to be personally divine, as Jesus did, getting people to worship them in the place of God. In our modern day, false teachings, cults and other spiritual movements distort or directly contradict biblical truth. Just within the past century, the world has witnessed several people claiming to be a messianic figure: Jim Jones, Sun Myung Moon, and David Koresh are only a select few. Along with the Great Delusion, advancements in communication technology and mass media have amplified the reach and influence of false prophets and deceptive teachings. Through digital platforms, television, and social media, false teachings spread rapidly and reach a global audience, deceiving many who are not grounded in biblical truth. As believers, we must develop spiritual discernment and study Scripture to have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, the true Messiah and the only Savior. Knowing the real empowers us to recognize the false.
These are the main signs being fulfilled today. So, what do you think? How do you read these signs? Do you think the Antichrist is alive somewhere in the world today?
I remember as a young Christian in the mid-1960s learning about prophecy and the Antichrist. Everyone thought it was time and Jesus’ return would be very soon. All the above signs were being fulfilled then, too. I never imagined that now, 60 years later, those signs would be even more evident in ways no one could have imagined back then. Will it continue in that way for another generation as things deteriorate even further? Or will the world order disintegrate as it did after the fall of the Roman empire only to have new cultures and countries assert themselves and life continue? Remember, there is nothing in God’s prophetic timeline that needs to happen before Jesus returns. These are conditions of what life will be like after He returns, and they give us a clue as to how near it may be. But there is nothing that must be fulfilled for Him to come back. Just avoid the extremes of ignoring the possibility of His return today or being disappointed if He doesn’t. Time will tell. (November 18, 2024 Doylestown, PA)
