MORE SHARP SWORDS FOR YOUR USE

In a previous blog I shared some special Scriptures that can be very helpful in spiritual warfare.  Paul says the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is our only offensive weapon to move ahead to victory (Ephesians 6:17).  Here are some more verses for you to be familiar with, even memorize, so God’s Spirit can bring them to mind when you need them.  Think of them as sharp swords available for your defense and to drive back the enemy and their attacks.

Isaiah 54:17  “No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord.”  While this life is filled with battles and false accusations, God promises that ultimate victory is ours.  He does not say there won’t be weapons attacking us or accusations made against us, just that ultimately, they will fail.  Those who serve God are under His divine protection.  When attacked physically, verbally or spiritually, we know we will emerge the victor in the end.  We can find confidence and security in that.  We don’t have to fight our own battles.  No matter how difficult things seem now, it will not always be that way.  Is anyone thinking or saying things about you that aren’t true?  Do you feel you will be crushed under the oppression coming against you?  Memorize and claim this promise.

Ephesians 6:11-17  “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”  Ephesians 6:11-17 paints a vivid picture of spiritual warfare, urging us as believers to equip ourselves with the full armor of God.  There is no doubt that a battle is going on and we are being attacked.  If we do not arm ourselves we will be defeated.  Our equipment includes: truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the Word of God and prayer. It stirs feelings of resolve and commitment, emphasizing the need for unwavering faith and the readiness to engage in the spiritual battles we encounter, knowing that our victory is assured through God’s divine protection and strength.  Which of the pieces of armor do you wear and use?  Which are you weak in and find yourself defeated?  What must you do to become strong in them as well?

Romans 8:37  “In all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”   We are not merely survivors but victors because of Jesus.  Even though we may feel defeated and weak, ultimately, we will be victorious.  Until then we persevere in faith and service.  We are not just conquerors, but MORE THAN conquerors.  That’s a promise to remember whenever we face trials, temptations and challenges.  In Jesus we can have victory now.  We can have peace within the battle even though the battle may continue to rage.  Faith comes by keeping our faith in Jesus, not waiting for circumstances to change and everything to be smooth and easy.  Think of a victory you have had in your life in the past.  Thank God for it.  Remember, God is the same and able to do the same as you patiently trust Him.

1 Corinthians 15:57  “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  In the face of spiritual battles, we recognize that it is God Himself who grants us victory through the redeeming work of Jesus Christ. This verse evokes a profound sense of thanksgiving and reassures us that, despite the challenges we encounter, ultimate triumph belongs to those who place their faith in the Lord.  When we feel discouraged and want to quit, when we think we have had too much and can’t go on and when things feel hopeless, remember this promise and don’t give up.  Think of someone you know who has stayed faithful despite great difficulties.  What can you learn from them?  How can you be an example to others like they are to you?

Zechariah 4:6  “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts.”   Of course, our abilities and resources cannot overcome spiritual forces that attack us. Still, we keep trying to have victory in our own strength then wonder what is wrong when we fail.  This verse is a great reminder of where our power comes from.  It’s short and easy to memorize or good to write out and hang where you’ll see it.  There are 2 truthful statements in it, you could say they are promises.  One promise is that we can’t overcome without God so stop trying.  The other is that we can overcome by God so stop quitting.  When are you most likely to face temptation and difficulties by your own resources?  How do you have victory by His power – what works for you?

As a general always equips his soldiers to do the job assigned to them, so God equips us, His soldiers, to be able to carry out our assignments against Satan and his forces.  Only by using His Word can we have victory over Satan’s attacks (Matthew 4:1-11).  Learn, even memorize these so they are readily available when needed.  Carry them with you all the time for you never know when you’ll need them.  (October 5, 2026  Doylestown, PA)

Which of these verses can you use now to help you in your daily battles?

What other verses do you use to help have victory when life gets tough?

Do you know of a friend who would benefit from a reminder about one of the verses?  Send them the verse now and pray for them
