HOW TO WIN YOUR SPIRITUAL BATTLES
In the last two blogs we talked about how to recognize when you are being attacked spiritually. Now we will see what to do to have victory over these attacks. God has given us weapons and tells us how to use them. Any solder would be foolish to not know how to use the weapons provided him. He will surely be a casualty. Unfortunately, that happens to many Christians, too.
God arms us with the sword, the Word of God, to stand against the enemy’s lies. He equips us with strength, wisdom, and discernment through His own Spirit so we can stay strong in the battle. He invites us to spend time in His Presence, through prayer and worship, pressing on to know Him more.
As we grow to know God’s Truth more and more, understanding what is real, we also grow to know more what is false. We’re able to quickly discern when something’s not right. We are stronger to stand against it in the powerful name of Jesus. He never leaves us to fend for ourselves in a dark world, but reminds us He is constantly with us, fighting for us, even when we cannot see. Here’s what He provides:
ARMOR OF GOD in Ephesians 6:11-17 is ours. No commander would send his soldiers into battle without fully equipping them so they could have victory, and no soldier would ever think of going into battle without his weapons. Yet that is what many Christians do and why they are defeated. God provides His truth to guide us (verse 14), His holiness to cover us (14) and His peace to keep us from fear (15). We must trust in Him (16) for this protects us from fear, doubt, deception, temptation to sin and confusion. We are secure in His salvation (17), His Word (17) and prayer (18).
HIS WORD is our Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). Our words are just words, but His are powerful and true. “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12). Focus on His truth and pray His words for victory.
PRAYER is our connection, our communication with God. We are commanded to pray as we use the armor of God (Ephesians 6:18). God promises that prayer makes a difference and God answers prayer (James 5:16).
HIS PROMISES, POWER & AUTHORITY are promised as well. When His Spirit fills us, He works in us and through us to empower and guide us (Acts 1:8; Romans 8:26). We have God’s promises and assurance to be with us. God’s power is greater than Satan’s power (1 John 4:4). We have His authority over Satan and demons (Luke 9:1-2; 10:17-20). Satan is a defeated foe (Revelation 12:7-11; 20:7-15) and his power over us is broken (Hebrews 2:14-15).
PRAISE & WORSHIP are also powerful tools He has given us (Psalm 22:3). God empowers His angels through our praise (2 Chronicles 20:22). Praise also fills our minds and hearts with truth and keeps us from fear or confusion. It also reminds the enemy Who is the greatest and ultimate victor.
Our part is to trust in God and live in obedience to Him (2 Corinthians 10:5). “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7). “And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.” (Revelation 12:11). “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18).
When we belong to Christ, the enemy never has the final word over our lives. We are secure in God’s hands. Press on – courageous and free – never held back by fear or defeat. The battle belongs to the Lord, and He has the final victory! (February 5, 2024 Doylestown, PA)
