HAS GOD EVER SPOKEN TO YOU????
He spoke to me one day – really surprised me!
Said He was going to destroy everyone in a flood!
You really going to destroy everyone else?
You have a point – 1500 years and nothing but sin!
Why me and my family spared? (to God)
FAITH in God!
HOLY life in obedience to God
CLOSE personal relationship to God
I. THE FLOOD
A. BUILDING THE ARK
But if sending worldwide flood, how will we be safe?
ARK – what’s that? big boat? here?
people will LAUGH! we’re on a mountain!
where will all the water come from?
rain? what’s that? from clouds? what?
OK, so we make a little boat
I can handle that, we’ve made boats before
what’s that? not ‘little’ boat? what size?
520’ long? 45’ wide? 75’ high? 3 floors?
why, that’ll take 120 years to build! 120?
I’ll be 600 yrs old!
people will REALLY laugh!
who’s allowed in?
me & wife, Shem, Ham, Japheth & wives
and their children
animals???? how many?
2 unclean, 14 clean?
how? migration (makes sense)
hibernation (that’ll work)
babies…
water species OK outside
OK God, I’ll do what you say …
When God says to do something, you better do it!
God said build and ark, so I did it!
B. NOAH’S PERSEVERANCE
HARD PHYSICALLY
so much wood, just getting trees there
no power tools, machines – all by hand!
NOAH = learned from little things earlier in life
trust God no matter what!
quit job to work full-time
always interrupted to preach to people
curious crowds to see ‘old kook’
People come to stare (tourist attraction)
+ (good news) preach for 120 years
– (bad news) no converts
COMMAND TO PERSEVERE 1 Cor 16:13; II Th 2:15; II Th 3:13; Rev 14:12
NATURE SHOWS PERSEVERANCE for 1 pound of honey a bee must visit 56,000 clover heads, each with 60 flower tubes (1 trip each tube) = 3,360,000 trips!
(distance = equivalent of flying 3x around the world)
MRS. NOAH = trust husband
hard to see him quit job
know God will provide
-normal income
-extra cost to build ark
SHEM = firstborn support, follow father
MRS. SHEM = follow husband no matter what
miss unsaved family, not on ark
HAM = second opposite of first, rebel
bad attitude @ it, God, work, etc
passed attitude to son Canaan
MRS. HAM = critical, gossipy, worldly (saved for my sake)
believed in God, but didn’t exercise faith
closest friends mocked Noah
JAPHETH = between Shem & Ham
own faith in God, but busy with own life
MRS. JAPHETH = unsure but trusted husband
best friend rejects, not come
Day came to go in – GOD shut the door
GOD inside with us (light, warmth, joy, life)
C. THE FLOOD
RAIN 40 days & nights – worldwide (not local flood)
EXTENT OF EFFECTS
tremendous erosion from rainfall
earthquakes, volcanic upheaval – water under ground
canopy gone – climate change, rain
north, south pole (ice ages)
dinosaurs frozen with tropical food
continents shift, ocean basins enlarged
layers of sediment, dead animals laid down
fossils formed (1 mile water 1 year) (coal to diamonds
‘geological ages’ formed in few months
ON ARK 371 DAYS
Patience, perseverance necessary
Not know how long
All those animals, work
Rain 40 days day & night
1 year in same boat
On top of each other all the time
PERSEVERANCE BUILDS CHRISTIAN CHARACTER JOB
James 1:4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
D. AFTER THE FLOOD
GREAT to get onto dry land again!
Altar, sacrifices (innocent blood shed)
Changes: COVENANT: rainbow promise no flood
scatter, populate whole earth
ANIMALS: afraid of man, each other
man can eat meat
NATURE: clouds, sunset, rain, climate
decay/fermentation begin (wine)
NOAH’S SIN – drunk
Ham & Canaan sinned worse, cursed
II. BABEL
A. FLOOD TO BABEL
NOAH lived 350 more years (950 at death)
about 1500 years after creation
Adam to Enoch to Noah (direct line)
SHEM: Middle East (Israel, Arabs) Semites
JAPHETH: Europeans
HAM: Canaanites, Africans – serve Shem
NOAH 500 when had Shem
SHEM 100 when had ARPHAXAD
unknown men, gaps
PELEG 30 when had Nimrod
Flood (3000) to Nimrod (2550) – 450 yrs (100 after Noah
B. BABEL
MAN: No Patience, perseverance
Always in a hurry, want things right away
Won’t spread out, want to stay together
Impatient, want strength now
Not patiently await growth, do it own way!
“Run with PATIENCE” Heb 12:1
RUN = don’t quit, keep going forward
PATIENCE = steady, consistent
Marathon-type running!
FROGS IN CREAM; 2 fell in can of cream, couldn’t climb
-Until an awful man named NIMROD came on scene…
NIMROD = ungodly rebel, murderer

dead, back to life, etc.
Why people follow a Nimrod?

BUT astrology, horoscopes, pervert salv in stars

SCATTERED into various nations
Kept knowledge from God
-salvation in stars
-Creation, flood, Babel stories
CONCLUSION
MY LIFE A LESSON IN PERSEVERANCE:
MINE in building boat, in boat
DESCENDANTS in not persevering
trying to do things quicker own way
