I GIVE YOU MY WORD
”I give you my word”. It means I need to do what I say I will do. I need to follow through with actions when I tell God I will do something in prayer or worship. I want to trust and obey Him, but when my faith is tested I don’t always follow through!
The Jews left Egypt in faith, trusting God would bring them into the Promised Land. But when their faith was tested, they failed. They were afraid of the giants. They didn’t go into the land because of their fear, not the actual giants. They said they had trust in God, but didn’t produce when the circumstances inspired fear.
Why are there giants in life? If we don’t face and overcome our giants we won’t grow our faith or becomes mature. If we handle it all ourselves our faith in our own self-sufficiency, but when facing insurmountable problems, we tend to trust in God’s help. Our desires need to produce actions. .Our giants are tailor-made by God to help us grow in areas where we are weakest.
How we respond to gigantic problems impact generations that follow. David faced Goliath because Joshua’s generation failed to completely obey God’s instructions. We can only imagine how these descendants of the giants tormented the nation of Israel for 400 years. God used young David to finish the job! God loves to show off by transforming the worst of our weaknesses into our greatest strengths. He wants to do that with each of us.
James 2: 17-18 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.
James 1:22 “But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Is your faith as strong as you think it is? How do you respond when things don’t go your way? What does your faith look like when ‘giants’ come against you?
