No Dead Ends

NO DEAD ENDS

When we visit our daughter in Virginia, two of her sons, ages 3 and 5, want me to go on long hikes with them in the woods behind their home.  They love to walk and explore for hours, and so do I.  From time to time the terrain gets pretty rough to walk on.  Fortunately there are some paths we can follow.  The last time I was there we followed a path that looked like it was going to end in a thicket of brush and trees.  The oldest grandson was concerned we were walking into a dead end.  I told him to just wait until we got closer, then he could see where the path went next.  Sometimes when we look ahead we can’t see the whole path, but as we travel along it unfolds step by step before us.

Immediately I thought about how much that is like life.  It may seem the path we are traveling or the issue we are struggling with now will lead us to a dead end and we’ll have nowhere to go, but God continually opens the way and shows the next step, step after step.  There are no dead ends for those who follow Him.

It’s like driving down a country road at night.  Your headlights only illuminate a short distance in front of you, but as you travel that distance they then show the next section to drive and then the part of road you will be traveling after that.  Bit by bit they take you to town.  The headlights don’t shine the whole way there at first, but show the portion of road you need to travel next.  That’s how God guides us in life.  We’d like to see the whole way illuminated before us but God says to just travel the portion He has revealed, then He will show the next part of the way.

You may be facing some issues or decisions in life and you aren’t sure what the ultimate outcome will be.  Just keep following the Lord step by step.  He’ll show you enough path as you need at the moment.  Trust Him to show the next portion when you need it. Follow Him wherever He leads. He’s never let His people down yet, and you won’t be the first!

Psalm 23:2-3 “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

Proverbs 3:6 “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Psalm 17:6 “My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped.”

Where or how are you following God into the unknown at this time in life?  Pray you would faithfully follow and trust Him each step of the way.
