Tidbits From Nancy

TIDBITS FROM NANCY
Nancy does a lot of sitting in India while we travel, I talk or we wait for things to begin. It gives her time to think and write down tidbits about our trip. I finally was able to type them up to share with you. Here they are:

TIDBITS ABOUT THE CONFERENCES
After each conference, attendees stand up and offer comments about the content and presentation of Jerry’s sessions. Most times I don’t know what they are saying because there is no translation into English, but there is a lot of agreeing and laughing. Here are some comments I gleaned with the help of a student who spoke English:
“Now I know what and how to teach.”
“100% practical.”
“Thrilled”
“Very unique.”
“I am so happy to hear.”
“Noah came to speak to me today” (Jerry presented 1st person the lessons from the life of Noah).
“I am empowered to boldly fight against the devil in Jesus’ name.”
“This is the first time I have understood Jesus through the entire Bible (Genesis to Revelation).”
“The Bible is preaching to us.”
“This Sunday I am preaching this” (referring to content of sermon).
“I am 68 years old and have studied the Bible but now I know how to proceed as a pastor.”

TIDBITS ABOUT OUR DAILY LIFE
The hotel supplied many more bottles of clean drinking water. It helped tremendously so I did not need to boil and sterilize so much each day.
We traveled a lot less in India, and it was less tiring.
There was less drama and chaos at the end of conferences during book and travel money distribution.
Yummy ‘curds’ (dense high fat yogurt) I mixed with mango paste – good eating!
Fewer mosquitoes and cows, no monkeys.
The deans and some faculty of the seminaries attended the conferences. This was new.
On the second day we flew to Bangalore. Jerry taught several classes at a high-quality seminary on a K-12, Bible College and graduate school campus. They also had a 35-bed hospital, culinary school and farm to table restaurant. We were met and hosted by a wife of a seminary teacher, Sarah, who was from Pittsburg. She was a total delight. We were treated to food from their farm. She truly is a kindred spirit. We are emailing already.
Less noise. Loudspeakers used to blare church services and our conferences into the community. Now they are no longer allowed. Likewise, we did not hear Muslim calls to worship at 5 AM.
Previously, the common practice was constantly honking your car horn. Needless to say, traffic was continuously very loud. Now horns are used less and mostly for passing.
There is an increasing marginalization of non-Hindu faith communities. The Prime Minister actually promotes that true patriotic Indians must be Hindu.

TIDBITS ABOUT JERRY
Jerry is my ‘young” old man.
Jerry is the king of contingencies. He has backup for his backups, and it’s a good thing he does!

THE 4 NEVERS
1. Never pass up the opportunity to use a bathroom. There are far too few of them.
2. Never leave home without toilet paper, hand sanitizer or bottle water.
3. Never assume someone understands English. And never assume they don’t!
4. Never assume anything and never expect the obvious.
